Sotogrande
is perfectly situated about 30 minutes West of Marbella,
15 minutes East of Gibraltar’s airport and has fast become
a popular destination for purchasers of luxury property.
The area of Sotogrande still maintains much of its traditional Andalucian
culture, although it is an area synonymous with the finer things
in life. The marina of Sotogrande has become a haunt for
the rich and famous who still desire the luxury of areas like Marbella
and Puerto
Banus, but prefer the peace
and tranquillity of a less populated area. Some of the best golf
courses on the Costa
del Sol
are within the Sotogrande area, but none more famous the Valderrama
Golf Course, which hosts the annual Volvo Masters
tournament and the Ryder Cup in 1997. The Santa Maria Club is the
main venue for SpanishPolo and is host to an
international tournament every August, attracting an elite crowd
from around the world.
The
marina at Sotogrande is one of the most luxurious along
the coast offering a range of facilities to suit the most demanding
sailor. There is room for almost 600 berths of up to 72 metres long,
with a plan to make over 1000 berths in the future. The harbour
itself is lined with many restaurants, cafés and bars as
well as a fine selection of shops attracting visitors from all over
Spain and beyond. Blue Sotogrande Marina Shopping, is a
newly constructed complex of 41 retail outlets. Where visitors
can find everything they need from exclusive international
and national brands, open-aired restaurants, cafés, fashion
shows, jazz concerts and glamorous jewellery shops.
Sotogrande
has so much more to offer you such as tennis clubs, paddle
tennis courts, volleyball, fitness club, horse riding,
the beach clubs with windsurfing, kid surf, jet skiing,
the Casino Nuevo San Roque and much more.
In
1962 Joseph McMicking instructed Alfredo Melian to buy five farms
that today are the resort of Sotogrande. His plan always was to
create and build a luxurious residential area in which
one can enjoy not only the warm climate and the Mediterranean
Sea but also a range of facilities and services. The name Sotogrande
was the name of one of the former farms that were located here.
The immense beauty and natural surroundings of this part of the
coast was and still is reason why nationalities from all around
the world find the resort so appealing.
Inaugurated
in 1978, the International School of Sotogrande is one
of the best day and boarding schools in the area. Children between
the age of 3 and 18 will be able to enjoy a high quality education
along with a challenging yet stimulating learning environment. Since
a short time, the Sotogrande International School (SIS) is housed
within a new high technology campus which was built only for this
reason.
Sotogrande
was developed prioritising the maintenance of the area’s
natural beauty and culture. Avenues were constructed lined with
palm trees and much of the area was painstakingly landscaped. It
is not difficult to see why many property buyers are attracted
to the prestigious area of Sotogrande. Many of these properties
are located around golf courses and offer stunning views
of the Mediterranean Sea and the northernmost mountains
of Africa.
